Larsen, Peter Laurentius

Larsen, Peter Laurentius (lourĕnt`sēəs), 1833–1915, American educator, b. Norway. He emigrated to the United States in 1857 as a Lutheran missionary. From 1859 to 1861 he was professor of theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, but left that institution to become president of the new Luther College, established by the Norwegian Synod. Although he resigned from the presidency in 1902, he continued to teach there until 1913. Larsen was also a prominent theological leader and was for many years editor of the weekly Evangelisk luthersk kirketidende [Evangelical Lutheran Church times].
