Lashley, Karl S. (Spencer) (1890–1958) psychologist; born in Davis, Va. He studied zoology at the Universities of West Virginia and Pittsburgh and was influenced by John Watson's behaviorism at Johns Hopkins (Ph.D. 1914). He held teaching and research positions at the Universities of Minnesota (1917–26) and Chicago (1929–35) and was research professor of neuropsychology at Harvard (1935–58). He directed the Yerkes Laboratories for Primate Biology in Orange Park, Fla., and made valuable contributions to the study of localization of brain function.
