Latania

a genus of palms. The trunk measures up to 10–12 m tall and has a crown of flabelliform leaves. The genus comprises three species, Latania commersonii, L. loddigesii, and L. verschaffeltii, which are found predominantly on the Mascarene Islands. These plants are grown in greenhouses as ornamentals (at temperatures no lower than 18°-20°C). The Chinese fan palm (Livistona chinensis) is sometimes given the Russian common name latania.
