Laura S. Walker State Park Location: 9 miles southeast of Waycross on GA 177. Facilities: 44 tent/trailer/RV campsites, 2 pioneer campgrounds, group camp, 9 picnic shelters, 5 group shelters, nature trails, 120-acre lake, swimming pool, boat ramp, docks, canoe rentals, wildlife observation platform, 18-hole golf course, clubhouse, and golf pro. Activities: Camping, boating, fishing, swimming, water-skiing, hiking, golf. Special Features: Located near the famous Okefenokee Swamp, the park is home to alligators, carnivorous pitcher plants, saw palmettos, yellow shafted flickers, great blue heron, and other flora and fauna native to Georgia's swampland. Park was named for Laura Walker, a Georgia writer, teacher, civic leader, and naturalist who was a great lover of trees and worked for their preservation.
