Laws, G. (George) Malcolm (Jr.) (1919– ) folklorist; born in Philadelphia. He earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, where he joined the English faculty in 1942, becoming emeritus in 1960. His work on American and British ballads and folk songs and 19th-century English literature includes Native American Balladry (1950, revised 1964), American Balladry from British Broadsides (1957), and The British Literary Ballad (1972).
