FUTURE TIME McCarthy and other scientists propose a compromise in the leap-second debate: Continue to make corrections but at longer intervals.
This year was forecast to be a leap-second year, a strange occurrence which happens every two years on average, which would have meant that there would have been 61 seconds in the last minute of the 21st century.
