    0.01 sec.
Lebedev, Aleksandr Ignat’evich

Born 1830 in St. Petersburg; died there Apr. 4 (16), 1898. Russian graphic artist and lithographer.

Lebedev studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1849—57) under P. V. Basin. From the 1850’s to the 1890’s he drew caricatures for such magazines as Vesel’chak (Merry Man) and Iskra (Spark), and created entertaining drawings on themes of St. Petersburg life (the albums of lithographs Fallen But Dear Creatures, 1862). In his illustrations for the works of N. A. Nekrasov and M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin, Lebedev strove to convey the social criticism of their work.
