Lechkhumi
an ethnic group of Georgians who live in the historical Lechkhumi region, along the middle course of the Tskhenistskali River in present-day Tsageri Raion, Georgian SSR. Their culture and way of life are similar to those of the population of the mountainous regions of Imereti. The Lechkhumi speak a dialect of the Georgian language. Their basic occupation is farming (corn and wheat) and viticulture. Lechkhumi a mountain range of the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus, between the headwaters of the Tskhenistskali and Rioni rivers. Length, about 60 km. Maximum elevation, 3,584 m (Mount Samertskhle). The range is composed primarily of porphyrites and slates and of flysch in the northeast. The slopes are very rugged, and in the upper part there are alpine landforms. The northern and western slopes are steep, and the southern and eastern ones are gentle. Mountain-forest and mountain-meadow landscapes predominate, with beech and dark coniferous forests and subalpine and alpine meadows. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
