Lecuna, Vicente
Born Sept. 14, 1870; died Feb. 20, 1954, in Caracas. Venezuelan historian. Member of the National Academy of History from 1914 and president of the academy from 1931 to 1933. For many years the editor of Boletín de la Academia Nacional de la historia. Honorary president of the Bolivarian Society. Lecuna was an exponent of official Venezuelan historiography, which glorified individual heroes and strong personalities, setting them apart from historical reality and the masses of the people. He collected and published documents on the life and work of Bolívar (vols. 1–11, 1929–48) and published the multivolume archives of General A. J. de Sucre (vols. 1–21, 1939).
