Lehmann, Phyllis

Lehmann, Phyllis (b. Williams) (1912–  ) classical archaeologist; born in New York City. She graduated from Wellesley College (1934) and received her Ph.D. from New York University (1943). She taught at Smith College from 1946 until her retirement in 1978. She was assistant field director of the excavations in Samothrace, of which her husband, Karl Lehmann, was director. She wrote a number of books, articles, and catalogs for exhibitions of classical art. With her husband, she wrote Samothracian Reflection: Aspects of the Revival of the Antique (1973).
