Leine 

a river in the Federal Republic of Germany (it originates in the German Democratic Republic), a left tributary of the Aller River (in the Weser basin). Length, 281 km; basin area, about 6,500 sq km. The river originates on the slopes of the Eichsfeld highlands in Thuringia; in its upper course it flows through a deep valley, and in its lower course through the Central European Plain. The mean flow rate is about 60 cu m per sec. There is a hydroelectric power plant on the river. The Leine is navigable below the city of Hanover. The cities of Göttingen and Hanover (Federal Republic of Germany) are located on the river.
