Leliavskii, Nikolai Semenovich

Born 1853; died Feb. 19 (Mar. 4), 1905. Russian hydraulic engineer.

After graduating in 1875 from the St. Petersburg Institute of Transportation and Communications Engineers, Leliavskii worked on a committee for the study and description of the navigable rivers of Russia. Between 1875 and 1884, extensive investigations and channeling were carried out under his direction to make the lower course of the Pripiat’ River navigable and to improve the navigable course of the Dnieper. Leliavskii developed an original channel control system by means of training works that was well received at the International Navigation Congress in The Hague in 1894.
