Lentz, Stanisław

Born Apr. 23, 1861, in Warsaw; died there Oct. 19, 1920. Polish painter and graphic artist.

Lentz studied at the Fine Arts School in Krakow (1877–79), at the Warsaw Drawing Class (1879–80) with B. Gerson, at the Academy of Arts in Munich (1880–84), and at the Académie Julien in Paris (1884–87). He was both a professor and the director of the Warsaw School of Fine Arts between 1909 and 1920. He excelled in psychological portraiture. Among his best works are the portraits of A. Jablonowski (1900) and M. Frenkel (1902), both in the National Museum in Warsaw. Lentz also painted scenes from the social struggle.
