Popov, Leonid Andreevich 

Born Aug. 14, 1919, in Arylakh Nasleg (small administrative unit), Suntar Ulus (district), now Leninskii Raion, Yakut ASSR. Soviet Yakut writer. Member of the CPSU since 1964.

Popov graduated from the Yakut Pedagogical Institute in 1941. He began publishing in 1937. His collections of verse and of narrative poems include I A wait the Days of Encounter (1943), From All My Heart (1950), Sea Gulls (1958), and A Bonfire by the Hut (1966). Among his collections of novellas and short stories are In the Taiga of the Sunny Stone (1961) and Kiundeli (1970). Popov’s plays include The Eagles Fly High (1959) and The Sons of Okhonoos (1968). He also writes works for children and has translated works of N. V. Gogol, A. A. Fadeev, and other writers into Yakut. Popov has been awarded the order of the Badge of Honor and several medals.
