Andreev, Leonid Aleksandrovich 

Born 1891; died 1941. Soviet physiologist and surgeon.

From 1937 until his death Andreev was a professor at Moscow State University. He graduated from the University of Kazan in 1914. Between 1921 and 1931 he worked simultaneously in I. P. Pavlov’s laboratory and at the clinic of the surgeon S. P. Fedorov. In 1931, Pavlov sent him to Canada for two years to develop the fundamentals of the pathogenesis of deafness. From 1934 to 1941 he was head of the laboratory of the physiology and pathology of hearing which he organized at the All-Union Institute of Experimental Medicine. His primary works were in the field of higher nervous activity, mainly the physiology of the aural analyzer.
