Grigorashenko, Leonid Pavlovich
Born Oct. 21, 1924, in the cossack village of Birzula, the present-day city of Kotovsk, Ukrainian SSR. Soviet graphic artist and painter. People’s Artist of the Moldavian SSR (1963); associate member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1958). Member of the CPSU since 1962. Grigorashenko studied at the art school in Kishinev (1941–42). His works include the watercolor series Kotovskii (1950) and Agelong Friendship (1950–63, devoted to the historical ties of the Moldavian, Russian, and Ukrainian peoples), the watercolor and etching series Power to the Soviets! (1966–67; State Prize of the Moldavian SSR, 1967), and historical painting (Tribute in Blood, 1958–66). The above works are in the Art Museum of the Moldavian SSR (Kishinev); some of his watercolors hang in the Tret’iakov Gallery. Grigorashenko also illustrates books.
