Zhabotinskii, Leonid Ivanovich
Born Jan. 28, 1938, in the village of Uspenka, Sumy Oblast. Soviet weight lifter; Honored Master of Sports (1964), teacher. Member of the CPSU since 1965. Zhabotinskii won the championship at the 18th Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 and at the 19th Olympic Games in Mexico in 1968 and has been many times world champion (1964–66, 1968) and USSR champion (1964–65, 1967–69) in the heavyweight category. His best result for three lifts was 590 kg in 1967: he pressed 200 kg, snatched 175.2 kg, and cleaned and jerked 217.5 kg. Zhabotinskii has been awarded two orders.
