Born Mar. 24, 1902, in Ia§i. Rumanian poet.

Lesnea published his first book of poetry, The Young Era, in 1931, and followed it with A Full Song (1934), Poems (1938), Silver (1939), Book of Hours (1940), and Tree of Life (1943). After his country’s liberation from fascism (1944), Lesnea’s poetry resounded with civic fervor. His collections The Steps of Years (1962) and Verse (1964) are a summing-up of his life experience.

Lesnea is a well-known translator of Russian poetry. He received the State Prize of the Rumanian Socialist Republic for his translation of Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin into Rumanian.
