Lesser Urals

a group of mountains and ridges of the eastern slope of the Polar Urals; situated in Tiumen’ Oblast, RSFSR. Length, 120 km; maximum elevation, 384 m (Mount Tan’-myl’k). They are separated from the main range by a broad marshy depression. The Lesser Urals are composed of igneous rocks, effusives, sandstones, and limestones and are dissected by tributaries of the Voikar River (Ob’ basin). On the slopes there is sparse coniferous forest (larch, spruce) and mountain tundra.
