Bogush, Lev Konstantinovich
Born Feb. 18 (Mar. 3), 1905, in Moscow. Soviet ohthisiologist; academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1963). Bogush graduated from the medical department of the University of Nizhny Novgorod (1928). Since 1951 he has been a professor at the Central Advanced Training Institute for Doctors as well as director of the surgical clinic of the Central Institute of Tuberculosis of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. His principal works deal with the theoretical aspects of the surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. He conceived and improved many operations on the chest and lungs. He was the first in the USSR to remove a lung in cavitary tuberculosis. He received the Lenin Prize (1961) and was awarded three orders and medals.
