Volodarskii, Lev Mordkovich 

Born Mar. 15 (28), 1911, in the village of Ostropol’, in what is now Starokonstantinov Raion, Khmel’nitskii Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. Soviet state figure. Doctor of economic sciences (1962); professor (1964). Member of the CPSU since 1939.

The son of an artisan, Volodarskii graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Engineering Economics in 1934. From 1938 to 1940 he was deputy chairman of the Leningrad oblast planning commission. From 1940 to 1942 he was the commissioner of Gosplan (State Planning Commission) of the USSR for Leningrad Oblast and the city of Leningrad. Between 1942 and 1948 he served as deputy head and as head of an administration of Gosplan.

Volodarskii was deputy head of the Central Statistical Board of the USSR from 1948 to 1953 and editor in chief at Gosstatizdat (State Statistical Publishing House) of the Central Statistical Board from 1953 to 1955. He headed an administration (department) of the Central Statistical Board in 1955 and 1956. Volodarskii served as deputy head of the Central Statistical Board from 1956 to 1967 and as first deputy head from 1967 to 1975, when he was named head. He was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1976 and a member in 1981. He was also elected a deputy to the tenth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Volodarskii has been awarded five orders and various medals.
