Leven (lē`vən), town (1991 pop. 8,591), Fife, E Scotland, at the mouth of the Leven River on the Firth of Forth. It is a summer resort, famous for its golf links and beaches. Leven Loch 1. a lake in E central Scotland: one of the shallowest of Scottish lochs, with seven islands, on one of which Mary, Queen of Scots was imprisoned (1567--8). Length: 6 km (3.7 miles).
