Levit, Solomon Grigor’evich
Born 1894, in the city of Ukmėrgė, now in the Lithuanian SSR; died 1943. Soviet geneticist, one of the founders of medical genetics in the USSR. Upon graduating from the medical department of Moscow State University in 1921, Levit worked at the clinic there. From 1926 to 1930 he was at the Communist Academy. From 1930 to 1937 he was director of the M. Gorky Medical Genetics Institute (before 1935, the Medical Biological Institute). Levit organized clinical genetic studies of twins. The results of research conducted under his guidance were published in four volumes of the institute’s Trudy (1929–36).
