Description: Promotes public appreciation of the contributions made to America's heritage by the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804-1806, and to preserving the Lewis and Clark experience. Supports the 3,700-mile Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail (see separate entry in national trails section), which runs from Wood River, Illinois along the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean. Provides assistance, including modest monetary grants, to groups or organizations along the trail wishing to interpret an aspect of the Lewis and Clark story. Supports scholarship, research, and encourages historical accuracy in the popular media. Members: 3,500. Dues: $49/year ($30/year for students).
