Limassol (lēmäsôl`), city (1992 pop. 87,091), S Cyprus, on Akrotiri Bay. It is a district administrative center, a port, and a resort. Wine and agricultural goods are exported. Chrome and asbestos are mined in the district. At Limassol, in 1191, Richard I of England married Berengaria of Navarre.

Limassol 

(Greek Lemesos), a city on the southern coast of the Republic of Cyprus; administrative center of the district of Limassol. Population, 51,500 (1970). Limassol is an important port for exports on the Mediterranean Sea. The city is the center for the production of wine and cognac in the country. Textiles and cement are also produced in Limassol.
