Liaotung Peninsula
a peninsula in Northeast China, between the West Korea Bay and the Gulf of Liaotung of the Yellow Sea. Length, 225 km; width, 80-130 km. The southeastern and northwestern shores are low and rectilinear, with a wide strip that is free of water at low tide. The southwestern tip of the peninsula forms the Kwantung Peninsula. The Liaotung Peninsula has a basically hilly and low-mountain terrain, with elevations mostly not exceeding 300 m. The highest peak, Puyiin Shan, has an elevation of 1,132 m. The peninsula is composed mainly of limestones, shale, and quartz sandstones, and partly gneiss; some parts are covered with basalt. Thickets of brush oak and hazel grow on the mountain slopes. There are plantings of kaoliang and corn. The large ports of Dairen and Liishun (Port Arthur) are located on the Liaotung Peninsula. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
