In the 2001 and 2005 parliamentary elections the Liberal Democrats won 52 and 62 seats respectively. I QUITE agree with Paul Linford's assessment of the Liberal Democratic Party conference (Voice of the North, September 29) but in the event of a hung parliament the Lib Dems will need to retain their present 63 seats in order to afford an effective coalition with the Tories.
CONSERVATIVE councillors have attacked the Lib Dems for leaving the Cabinet.
Labour's Halton Brook, a key target of the Lib Dems had to be recounted six times.
