Melfi, Constitutions of

 or Liber Augustalis

(1231) Legal code drawn up by Emperor Frederick II for the kingdom of Sicily. Based on Roman and canon law, the constitutions centralized royal administration, established greater efficiency in the courts, and rationalized civil and criminal procedures in the interests of justice.
