luminaireor light fixtureComplete lighting unit, consisting of one or more lamps (bulbs or tubes that emit light), along with the socket and other parts that hold the lamp in place and protect it, wiring that connects the lamp to a power source, and a reflector that helps direct and distribute the light. Fluorescent fixtures usually have lenses or louvers to shield the lamp (thus reducing glare) and redirect the light emitted. Luminaires include both portable and ceiling- or wall-mounted fixtures. luminaire [¦lü·mə¦ner] (electricity) An electric lighting fixture, wall bracket, portable lamp, or other complete lighting unit designed to contain one or more electric lighting sources and associated reflectors, refractors, housing, and such support for those items as necessary. luminaire 1. A complete lighting unit consisting of one or more lamps, together with components which are designed to distribute the light, to position and protect the lamps, and to connect the lamps to the electric power supply; also called a lighting fixture. 2.
