HyperTransport

A high-speed interconnection between integrated circuits. Code named Lightning Data Transport and developed by AMD and others, the HyperTransport I/O Link Specification defines a protocol and electrical interface between the CPU, memory and peripheral devices.

Since its introduction in 2001, HyperTransport has progressed from Version 1.0 with a peak rate of 1.6 GHz per wire pair and supporting a total bandwidth of 12.8 Gbytes/sec to Version 3.0 in 2006, which offers clock support up to 2.6 GHz and a maximum aggregate bandwidth of 41.6 Gbytes/sec. HyperTransport was designed to be fully compatible with legacy PCI (running at 33 or 66 MHz) plus PCI Express and PCI-X technologies.
