Nochlin, Linda

Nochlin, Linda (b. Weinberg) (1931–  ) art historian; born in New York City. She studied at Vassar (B.A. 1951), Columbia University (M.A. 1952), and New York University (NYU) (Ph.D. 1963). She taught art at Vassar (1952–80), City University of New York (1980–90), Yale (1990), and at NYU's Institute of Fine Arts (1992). She specialized in painting and sculpture of the 19th and 20th centuries, and was one of the first scholars to define feminist issues in 19th-century painting.
