Linder, Richard (1901–78) painter; born in Hamburg, Germany. He emigrated to America (1941), became an illustrator for popular magazines in New York City, and taught at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. (1952–65). By 1952 he was producing his highly stylized erotic and surrealistic works that linked Pop Art with a symbolic tradition, as seen in Ice (1966).
