Linkhovoin, Lkhasaran Lodonovich 

Born Jan. 1, 1924, in the village of Aga-Khangel, now in Aga-Buriat National Okrug. Soviet Buriat opera singer (bass); People’s Artist of the USSR (1959).

Linkhovoin graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory in 1954. From 1942 to 1949 he worked in the Buriat Musical Drama Theater in Ulan-Ude. In 1954 he became a soloist with the Buriat Theater of Opera and Ballet, where he was also artistic director from 1962 to 1966. Linkhovoin’s roles have included Bumal-khan in Frolov’s Enkhe—Bulat-bator, Bulgan Tabit in Aiusheev’s Blood Brothers, Lama in Iampilov’s Budamshu, Khan in Berlinskii’s Bair, Susanin in Glinka’s Ivan Susanin, the Miller in Dargomyzhskii’s The Mermaid, Gremin and Kochubei in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Mazepa, Konchak in Borodin’s Prince Igor, Mephistopheles in Gounod’s Faust, and Don Basilio in Rossini’s Barber of Seville.

Linkhovoin began teaching in 1955 at the school of music in Ulan-Ude. He was a deputy to the sixth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and several medals.
