Linz, Juan J. (José) (1926– ) sociologist; born in Bonn, Germany. He earned a Ph.D. at Columbia University (1959) and went on to become Stirling professor of political and social science at Yale. His work on political and comparative sociology and development modernization focused on Spain and Latin America and included such titles as Los empresarios ante el poder publico (1966) and El sistema de particos en Espana (1976).
