The traditional idea of a 'set point' (Mrosovsky and Powley, 1977) by which energy balance is monitored through some negative feedback loop to correct feeding behaviour, has been recently advanced by the discovery of leptin and the development of the lipostat.
Lipitor, a type of statin, was found not only to clear plaque and fight hardening of the arteries, but was also better at cutting production of bad cholesterol when compared with another statin, lipostat.
The lipostat works to keep a person's body weight constant.
