liquid-drop model [′lik·wəd ¦dräp ‚mäd·əl] (nuclear physics) A model of the nucleus in which it is compared to a drop of incompressible liquid, and the nucleons are analogous to molecules in the liquid; used to study binding energies, fission, collective motion, decay, and reactions.
