Lisa, Manuel (1772–1820) fur trader; born in New Orleans. Active in the St. Louis fur trade, he built Fort Manuel in present-day Montana and Fort Lisa near present-day Omaha, Nebr. (1812). He was a leader of the Missouri Fur Company from 1808 and was sub-agent for the Indian tribes along the Missouri River (1814–20).
