Litvinenko, Vasilii Timofeevich 

Born Dec. 20, 1899 (Jan. 1, 1900), in the village of Zorianoe, in present-day Mar’inka Raion, Donetsk Oblast; died there Oct. 15, 1960. Kolkhoz production innovator. Chairman of the Rodina Kolkhoz, Mar’inka Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR (1946–60). Twice a Hero of Socialist Labor (1948, 1958). Became a member of the CPSU in 1948. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45.

Under Litvinenko’s leadership the Rodina Kolkhoz was transformed into one of the most progressive agricultural enterprises of the Ukraine. From 1954 to 1960 the kolkhoz was an annual participant in the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition and the Exhibition of the Achievements of the National Economy of the USSR. He was awarded a first prize certificate for obtaining average yields in 1954 of 4,230 kg of milk (from 360 cows). Litvinenko was a deputy to the fourth and fifth convocations of the Supreme Soviet and a delegate to the Eighteenth through Twenty-first Congresses of the Communist Party of the Ukraine. He was awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Star, and medals; he also received medals of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition, including the large gold medal.
