Liubavin, Nikolai Nikolaevich 

Born Apr 10 (22), 1845, in St. Petersburg; died Dec. 17, 1918, in Moscow. Russian chemist.

Liubavin graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1867 and began working there in 1871. From 1886 to 1906 he worked at Moscow University. (He became a professor there in 1890.) Liubavin’s main research was on ferromanganese ores and phosphorites, the synthesis of pyridine bases from aldehydes and ammonia, and the synthesis of amino acids by the reaction of aldehydes and ammonium cyanide.
