Liubimova, Valentina Aleksandrovna 

Born Nov. 4(16), 1895, in the village of Shurovo, present-day Moscow Oblast; died May 26, 1968, in Moscow. Soviet Russian playwright.

Liubimova was a schoolteacher and wrote her first play in 1930. Her plays for children’s theater are devoted to problems of the school and the family, upbringing, and child psychology. They include Serezha Strel’tsov (1936), At the Beginning of May (1946), A Genuine Friend (1949), At a Dangerous Line (1954), Near Old Ash Trees (1957), For Children Up to Sixteen Years Old (1960), On Vacation (Chicken Pox, 1962), and the fairy tale The Magic Grass (staged 1964). The play Snowball (1948; State Prize of the USSR, 1949) tells of discrimination against Negro children in American schools.
