Liudmila Vasilevna Erofeeva

Erofeeva, Liudmila Vasil’evna 

Born Sept. 13, 1937, in Kalinin. Soviet Russian lyric-coloratura soprano. People’s Artist of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1967.

In 1960, Erofeeva graduated from Gnesin’s Moscow Music Pedagogic Institute, where she had studied singing with N. A. Verbova. She became a soloist at the Moldavian Opera and Ballet Theater in 1960. Her roles have included Marfa in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, and Violetta and Desdemona in Verdi’s La Traviata and Otello, respectively. Among her other roles have been Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust, Leïla in Bizet’s Les Pêcheurs de perles, and Adele in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus.

Erofeeva has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
