Livingston, M. (Milton) Stanley (1905–86) physicist; born in Brodhead, Wis. He taught and performed research at Cornell University (1934–38), then moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1938–70). Concurrently, he consulted and performed atomic research at Brookhaven (1946–48), Harvard (1956–67), the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (1967–70), and Los Alamos (1950–86). A lifelong leader in atomic particle accelerator design, he developed the first cyclotron with E. O. Lawrence (1931). |
