On eastern border of LA, east of Baton Rouge; organized Feb 10, 1832 from Saint Helena Parish. Name Origin: For Robert R. Livingston (1746-1813), NY patriot, statesman, and a drafter of the Declaration of Independence.

Area (sq mi): 702.84 (land 648.02; water 54.82). Pop per sq mi: 168.50.
Pop 2005: 109,206. State rank: 10. Pop change: 2000-20005 18.90%; 1990-2000 30.20%. Pop 2000: 91,814 (White 93.50%; Black or African American 4.20%; Hispanic or Latino 1.10%; Asian 0.20%; Other 1.30%). Foreign born: 0.80%. Median age: 32.80.
Income 2000: per capita $16,282; median household $38,887; Pop below poverty level: 11.40%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $21,169-$22,181.
