Livius Andronicus, Lucius
Born circa 284 B.C.; died circa 204 B.C. Roman poet. Greek from Tarentum by origin. The plays of Livius Andronicus were free translations of Greek tragedies and comedies. The first plays of Livius Andronicus, which were produced at the Roman public games in 240 B.C., and his translation of the Odyssey mark the beginning of artistic Roman literature.
