Ljudevit of Posavina, Uprising of
(A.D. 819-823), an uprising against Frankish rule by the Posavina (Pannonian) Croats in alliance with the Slovenes and Timok Slavs under the leadership of Ljudevit, prince of Posavina Croatia. The campaigns of the Frankish feudal lords and their ally Borna, prince of Dalmatian Croatia, against the rebels in 819-821 were unsuccessful (in 820 only the uprising of the Slovene tribes was suppressed). After the assassination of Ljudevit by Borna’s partisans in 823, the Franks succeeded in suppressing the uprising. However, the uprising of Ljudevit of Fosavina undermined Prankish rule in Posavina Croatia. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
