Loboda, Petr Grigor’evich 

Born Oct. 5 (18), 1907, in Rostov-on-Don. Soviet Russian actor. People’s Artist of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Loboda graduated from a studio in Rostov-on-Don in 1934. He has performed at several theaters in the city, including the Theater of Young Workers, where he first appeared in 1930, the Lenin Komsomol Theater, and the Comedy Theater, where he appeared from 1943 to 1950. From 1941 to 1943 he was associated with the Front Theater of the Southern Front. He performed at the M. Gorky Rostov-on-Don Theater in 1937 and 1938 and renewed his association with the theater in 1950.

Loboda’s roles have included Prokhor in Gorky’s Vassa Zheleznova, Prince Shuiskii in A. K. Tolstoy’s Tsar Fedor loannovich, Karavai in Makaenok’s Pill Under the Tongue, Ras-pliuev in Sukhovo-Kobylin’s Krechinskii’s Wedding, Shvandia in Trenev’s Liubov’ Iarovaia, and Siplyi in Vishnevskii’s An Optimistic Tragedy. Among Loboda’s other roles have been Pantelei Melekhov and Shchukar’ in The Quiet Don and Virgin Soil Upturned (both based on novels by Sholokhov), respectively.
