Lobov, Semen Mikhailovich 

Born Feb. 15 (28), 1913, in the village of Smol’nikovo, now Volokolamsk Raion, Moscow Oblast. Soviet military commander; admiral of the fleet (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1940.

Lobov joined the navy in 1932. After graduating from the M. V. Frunze Naval School in 1937, he served on ships of the Pacific Ocean Fleet. He was deputy commander and commander of a destroyer in the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). Between 1946 and 1964, Lobov served in the Black Sea Fleet as commander of a destroyer division, a cruiser, and a battleship; subsequently in the Northern Fleet he was commander of a large unit of ships and first deputy commander of the fleet. He has been commander of the Red Banner Northern Fleet since May 1964. He was a deputy to the seventh and eighth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He has been a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU since 1966. Lobov has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, two Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War First Class, and various medals.
