Logan, Mount [for Sir William Logan Logan, Sir William Edmond, 1798–1875, Canadian geologist. Educated in England, he managed (1831–38) coal mines and a copper smelter in Wales. In addition to making studies of clays underlying coal seams, he made extensive geological maps and sections.

], 19,551 ft (5,959 m) high, in Kluane National Park, extreme SW Yukon Territory, Canada, just E of Alaska; highest mountain in Canada and second highest in North America. It caps an immense tableland and is the center of the greatest glacial expanse in North America. The first ascent was made in 1925.

Logan, Mount

Peak, St. Elias Mountains, southwestern Yukon Territory, Canada, near the Alaskan boundary. Reaching 19,524 ft (5,951 m), it is the highest mountain in Canada and is second in North America only to Mount McKinley. It is located in Kluane National Park, which occupies 8,500 sq mi (22,000 sq km). The summit was first reached in 1925. The peak was named for William Logan, founder of the Geological Survey of Canada.
