Loganovskii, Aleksandr Vasilevich

    0.01 sec.
Loganovskii, Aleksandr Vasil’evich

Born Mar. 11 (23), 1810 (or 1812), in Moscow; died there Nov. 18 (30), 1855. Russian sculptor.

From 1821 to 1833, Loganovskii studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under V. I. Demut-Malinovskii. He studied in Italy between 1837 and 1844 on a stipend from the academy. Loganovskii worked in the spirit of late academic classicism and primarily produced large statues and reliefs, using themes from the Gospels and from Russian history. Examples of his works are the high relief Massacre of the Innocents in the southern portico of St. Isaac’s Cathedral in Leningrad (bronze, 1844–46) and the statues and reliefs of the Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow (bronze and marble, 1840’s and 1850’s, now in the A. V. Shchusev Museum of Architecture, Moscow).
