Little detailed knowledge of the transition dipole moment of QDs previously had been available, although it is critical in determining gain for QD laser design and in implementing the coherent manipulation of the QD state in quantum logic gates that may be part of future-generation optical computers. Between 1998 and 2001, Weiss took some of the first steps toward building cellular logic gates when he modeled and built a cellular inverter, an AND gate, and two other gates. Since the Virtex-5 SXT and LXT devices share a compatible footprint and FPGA package size, while supporting high-bandwidth, multi-gigabit serial transceivers, VMETRO's customers will be able to choose between maximum DSP support and maximum logic gates in a single board design. |
